will Parabolic Potassium be Fedora 19 release name?

Fedora release naming is one of the joys with in Fedora Project. I used to enjoy it over the period. Now it is time to select a release name for the Fedora 19 release which will be releasing in the mid of 2013. Release name selection is based on the votes from the community. There is a list of proposed release names by the community and then the community votes on their preferences.

Fedora 19 release name voting period will end on 15th November, 23:59 UTC. Therefore please use the following link and cast your vote before that. I am curious enough to get to know the successor of “Spherical Cow” which was the release name for Fedora 18.

Following are the proposed release names which stand for the election:

  1. Cubical Calf – Next version of spherical cow, Cubical calf.
  2. Higgs Boson – Is an elementary particle in the Standard Model of particle physics (wikipedia says so)
  3. Loch Ness Monster – mythical creature same as Spherical cow
  4. Martian Blueberries – Spherical blueberries
  5. Newtonian Dynamics – Everyone knows this right, F=ma
  6. Parabolic Potassium – 19th Element at the Periodic table, Potassium (K)
  7. Schrödinger’s Cat – Paradox in Quantum mechanics
  8. Tiddalik – Mythical as spherical cow

Among 8 above proposed version what I like would be as follow;

  • Parabolic Potassium – 19th Element at the Periodic table, Potassium (K)
  • Schrödinger’s Cat – Paradox in Quantum mechanics

Following would be moderately okay;

  • Martian Blueberries – sounds nice, I like blueberries
  • Higgs Boson – sounds good

Why I dislike others

  • Newtonian Dynamics
  • – Will this lead next release names like Pure Mathematics, Physical Chemistry . . . . . school sibjects

  • Cubical Calf – Not creative.
  • Tiddalik – prefer to have two word release name and this reminds me a prog which I dont like
  • Loch Ness Monster – prefer to have two word release name and sounds like Fedora 19 is a monster, I dont like monsters

So, my selection is Parabolic Potassium. It is simple and really match nice with its atomic number 19 and the Fedora release. This doesnt imply that Fedora 20 should be something related with Calcium. Further it sound nice too.

    • why should we limited saying “sounds like an Ubuntu name”, we are free to what we want disregarding other, because we dont have a competition among us and we all strive for Free Software.

      And Ubuntu use animals name AFAIK, so this is an element, so even though it sounds like, there is no logical relationship, but that Cat has.

      • an Ubuntu-like aliteration would be perceived by the general public as an attempt to copy and spread confusion.
        the Cubical Calf name is in the same boat, equally bad.

Please add your valuable idea below, will make a discussion, thanks !
