One hour and 3 minutes remaining to announce the accepted students for this year GSoC program. However I am taking the liberty to congratulate both selected and also returning students before the announcement.
Being an admin for an organization sometimes I hope I were a student when the time reached to take a decision and when requesting slots I though it would be better if we can accept all the nice proposal we received, which is impossible. Finally we made a selection with great difficulty. It was a pleasure to go through the comprehensive excellent proposals and their work. There was a huge competition this year, obviously around 80% students who submitted proposals should be out.
Disregarding the result I would like to congratulate each and every student who submitted a proposal towards an organization. IMO submitting a proposal means a lot. Getting not selected should not be an end but a start. Work hard, be dedicated, plan well, learn your mistakes you can be a winner next time, for sure.
GSoC is not all about Free Software, but a tiny echo system in it. Therefore disregarding the motivation behind submitting proposals, keep contributing. Not because the organizations need your help, but that will help you to get developed. There are more to learn that worth.
I never played the role of a student in GSoC therefore I have no experience on how it feel but I know you are excited. But do not get disappointed if the result is not desirable. Some organizations have plans for the returning students. Get their advantage. Keep in touch with the organization and try becoming a part of it, believe me it is easy.
Finally thanks for enjoying the first part may be the last part of a thriving program. Specially those who submitted proposals towards the Fedora project, Do not get disappointed, we take care of you with a program to all the returning students who are interested.
