Fedora Free Media group

Since last week, I ll be managing the Fedora Free Media Group membership management tasks. Therefore think of writing a short intro and guide to newbies through Fedora Free Media group. This would be helpful to individuals who would like to join with the Free media group.

Fedora Free Media group[1] consists with a set of volunteers who ship/ post Fedora Media to interested individuals all over the world.

The requests for media should/ can be made via the Free Media request form[2] and no bulk orders are allowed or processed. Members of the group will respond to the requests and most of the time local members will fulfill the requests. There is a high demand for media, as a result it may take few days to process the request.

It is easy to join with the group as well. But there are few very important points to bare mind.

1. No media will be supplied from the Fedora project.
2. No funding will be provided from the Fedora project to cover the expenses.

Further if you are interested in joining with the group, follow the Joining page[3] for comprehensive details on steps to be followed, in brief

1. Create a FAS account.[4]
2. Apply for the Free media FAS group via the Fedora account System.
3. Subscribe to the freemedia mailing list.[5]
4. Create a User Page on fedoraproject.org/wiki including your contact details and country clearly.

If you complete all four steps your membership will be approved with no further inquiries. If you complete first three steps and failed to complete the last step, you will be contacted and 1 week will be given to complete the requirement. No respond will be made for the reqests with no completion of first three steps and will be discarded with no feed-back.

Requests for the membership with no user-page on the wiki and not subscribing to free-media mailing list would be discarded with a feed-back. Requests for the membership with no proper information on the wiki user page would be held for 1 week and if there is no response/ rectification from the requester, the request will be discarded. However if you are willing to apply again please do apply with all steps completed. Once a request is discarded all four steps should be followed again to apply for the membership.

Finally I will be managing the requests personally therefore please do allow around 2-3 days to process the request.
